The coronavirus pandemic put many students’ studies on pause. But Harford Community College's Certified Nursing Assistant and Dental Assistant students who were scheduled to complete their certification requirements this past spring persevered and earned their certificates only a few months behind schedule. The diligent efforts and support of Nursing & Allied Health Professions Dean Laura Cianelli Preston and Continuing Education and Training (CET) Associate Dawn Reimer were instrumental in the endeavor to achieve completion of the programs. Both classes were able to finish the theory portion of their classes online via Blackboard. Once in-person classes resumed for them in July, both classes were able to complete the skills portion of their coursework. The nursing assistant candidates also completed their clinical hours in the lab at the College.

The Certified Nursing Assistant program completers finished their requirements on August 12, led by instructors Susan Smith and Carla Lindhorst, and include Dakota Barthel, Danielle Birdsong, Emily Boughers, Caleb Bratton, Sarah Carico, Layne Felts, Katie Gibson, Raychel Lempitsky, Karen Peacock, Hailey Sacker, Janis Sperr, Chloe Triplett, and Morgan Zakes.

The Dental Assistant program completers, led by instructor Nancy Farrell, concluded their program requirements on August 5 and include Sabrina Darby, Jessica Donahue, Jazmin Marion, Lindsay Pandolfini, Brianna Price, Maya Perry, and Hayden Grimes.
