April 8, Student Center, Room 243, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Explore how social identities (race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, etc.) shape our experiences on this campus and in our communities. This interactive workshop focuses on the significance of 'identities' in our everyday lives, and how they play into social norms, inherent biases, and systems of inequality. Lunch will be provided.
April 25, Student Center, Room 243 - Shows at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:10 p.m., and 6 p.m.
When Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class African-American pianist, on a concert tour to the Deep South, they rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the establishments safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism and danger - as well as unexpected humanity and humor - they are forced to set aside differences to survive a journey of a lifetime.

Choose Civility Harford County was launched to promote respect, empathy and tolerance in our community. Nearly 300 leaders representing diverse interest groups attended the introductory event on June 27, 2018 at Water’s Edge in Belcamp. The gathering was hosted by County Executive Barry Glassman and Harford County Public Library CEO Mary Hastler. Valerie J. Gross, founder of the national Choose Civility movement, was the featured speaker.
Harford County Public Library (HCPL) is the lead organization of the Choose Civility Harford County initiative in partnership with Harford County Government.
