in the Chesapeake Theater. The play will be performed by Phoenix Festival Theater on June 7,

A clever musical comedy with overachievers’ angst, Spelling Bee showcases the experiences of
six adolescent outsiders in the throes of puberty, trying for the spelling bee championship of a
lifetime. Audience participation adds to the hilarity as these youngsters learn that winning
doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
Spelling Bee will be directed by Laurie Starkey, is based on the book by Rachel Sheinkin, with
music and lyrics by William Fin. The show is presented through special arrangement with Music
Theatre International (MTI).
