The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be presented at Harford Community College
in the Chesapeake Theater. The play will be performed by Phoenix Festival Theater on June 7,
8, and 14 at 8 PM and June 9 and 15 at 3 PM. The play contains mature themes.
A clever musical comedy with overachievers’ angst, Spelling Bee showcases the experiences of
six adolescent outsiders in the throes of puberty, trying for the spelling bee championship of a
lifetime. Audience participation adds to the hilarity as these youngsters learn that winning
doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.
Spelling Bee will be directed by Laurie Starkey, is based on the book by Rachel Sheinkin, with
music and lyrics by William Fin. The show is presented through special arrangement with Music
Theatre International (MTI).
Tickets are $10-$20 and are available at tickets.harford.edu, the Harford Community College
