Harford Community College is opening an exhibition in the Hays-Heighe House on campus on October 7 titled Beauty in Sport: Celebrating Black Jockeys in Harford County, Maryland, and Beyond that will pay tribute and explore the integral role of African Americans in the thoroughbred horseracing industry—not only as jockeys, but also as trainers and grooms.
Teacher From the Black Lagoon and Other Storybooks will be presented at the Amoss Center on Friday, September 27, at 7 PM.
The late William Boniface, long-time racing editor at The Baltimore Sun, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Robert and Anne Heighe Award for Excellence in Equestrian Journalism that is given annually by the Hays-Heighe House at Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD.
