Strategic Planning

Journey to the Future

Harford Community College has begun the strategic planning process for 2019-2022. The plan is intended to help guide the College in improving the success of every student, continuing to strengthen its foundation as a college of the future, enhancing its partnerships and relations with the broader Harford County community and northeast region of Maryland, and position HCC as a leader college in higher education in general and in the community college sector in particular.

The College will be assisted in this process with facilitation conducted by CampusWorks, Inc., along with a strategic planning liaison for the Board of Trustees, and a campus-wide steering committee led by three tri-chairs representing the constituencies of the College. The first phase of the plan began with the Kick-Off at the fall 2018 Convocation, followed by a review of HCC’s mission and vision, as well as its strengths and areas for opportunities for growth. This review process is inclusive in nature, allowing several opportunities for students, faculty, staff, administrators and external stakeholders to provide input into the planning process and final strategic plan document.

The College will endeavor to share its progression, successes and deliverables through this webpage, social media, and other forms of communication. The strategic planning process is scheduled to conclude June 2019.

Strategic Plan Tri-Chairs

We are pleased that the following College employees agreed to lead the campus-wide strategic plan steering committee and work closely with the CampusWorks facilitator and Executive Leadership Team in developing the College’s new strategic plan. With their co-leadership, it is expected the College will develop a robust and forward-looking planning document that well positions HCC as an anchor institution for higher education in the community and a leading model community college.

Over his 15 years in higher education, Kevin has been a full-time faculty member at two universities and served as the Director of Planning and Institutional Research, Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, and Provost at Tulsa Community College. He earned a BA in Psychology from SUNY Cortland and an MS and PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Oklahoma.

As the College moves forward with Achieving the Dream and creating the Strategic Plan, the two will work closely together to ensure alignment, with the ultimate goal being that the emergent themes from ATD drive the Strategic Plan. Several sessions have been planned so that the campus community may stay abreast and be a part of the successful outcome of both of these very important initiatives.

The following calendar outlines the upcoming activities that you are invited to participate in for Achieving the Dream and the Strategic Plan. Additional announcements will be forthcoming in future editions of News & Whooo’s with links to sign up through the Employee Training Calendar. We hope this provides a snapshot to help you understand where the College is heading in this process. Individual committees and the Board of Trustees will be meeting separately to work on related initiatives intermittently during this time.
