| Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal |
Refresh your skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. This American Heart Association course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital, and need to renew their certification. To qualify for the renewal course, you must have a working knowledge of dysrhythmia recognition and provide evidence of a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card and a current ACLS Provider card. Textbook optional. Email jmaxwell@chepinc.org if you wish to purchase a copy.Successful completion of both a written and a skills exam is required to renew ACLS Provider status. Emergency Management Training First Responder |

| EMT-Intermediate Clinical Externship |
Learn to apply your knowledge of the theory and skills required to treat patients requiring both emergency and non-emergency advanced life support assessment and management. While under the direct supervision of a qualified preceptor, you will have the opportunity to participate in an individually scheduled, skill-based externship in a variety of settings including the pre-hospital field environment, clinics, and hospital emergency departments. No additional textbook purchase required. Documentation of the following information must be provided prior to the first day of class: a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card; proof of immunization for measles, mumps rubella, and varicella; HBV vaccination verification or waiver; and a negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray reading. | EMT-Intermediate Foundations |
Build on the knowledge you gained as an EMT-B while you learn the principles and practices of patient assessment, the function of human body systems, advanced airway management and ventilation, intravenous access, pharmacology, and medication administration. In this course, you will have the opportunity to explore the role of the EMT-I and the legal considerations of advanced pre-hospital care. Before registration, make an appointment at the Test Center (443-412-2352) to complete the Maryland Basic Life Support Protocol Exam (BLSP). To enroll you must achieve a score of 70% or better on the BLSP. There is a potential for exposure to hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens. Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry patients out of buildings and down steps. Students are required to practice on one another in skills lab. You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. On the first day of class, you must present a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card, and provide documentation of a current Maryland EMT-B card with 1 year (or 150 calls) experience as an EMT-B or a waiver from the program specialist. Prerequisite: Math for Healthcare Careers. You can test out of the math class at the Test Center by achieving a passing score on the elementary algebra exam (ACEA). Gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the complexity of the human body! You will learn how our body systems work together, identify common disorders of each body system, and define selected anatomical terms. Instructional delivery includes both face-to-face classroom sessions and an online component. You must have access to a computer outside the classroom to complete assignments and quizzes. | Introduction to Emergency Medical Services |
Learn basic emergency care in the pre-hospital setting as you gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the various levels of Emergency Medical Technicians. This course, along with Basic EMT Skills is an entry-level course to the EMT career pathway and prepares you for certification as an EMT-B. Affiliation with a Maryland career, volunteer, or commercial ambulance service prior to the certification examinations is recommended. Prerequisites: Students must be at least 18 years-of-age and have a high school diploma or GED, and able to meet the minimum physical and psychological requirements for an EMT as stated in the program technical standards. Documentation of a physical examination with evidence of adequate immunization for rubeola, rubella, mumps, and varicella; seasonal flu; current tetanus booster; and a negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray is mandatory for continued enrollment. Hepatitis B vaccination strongly recommended. Textbook available in the college bookstore. Medic Kit and uniforms available at Paramedical Personnel of Maryland.
