| EKG Technician |
Prepare to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) EKG Technician exam. EKG Technicians perform EKGs to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. Many work in the hospital setting, while others work in clinics, physician's offices, and diagnostic laboratories. This course, designed for the person who has little or no knowledge of basic electrophysiology and arrhythmia identification, includes background information on cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, disease processes, rhythm identification, common pharmacological agents, legal considerations, and stress testing. Learn the function and use of the EKG machine and the Holter Monitor, patient preparation, lead placement, and infection control. Students must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites are Foundations of Healthcare, HIPAA Compliance, Healthcare Externship Preparation, Healthcare Professionalism, Healthcare Provider CPR, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Business Computing, Law & Medical Ethics, and Medical Terminology. You may test out of selected prerequisites by making an appointment at the Test Center (443-412-2352) and requesting exams for HIPAA (HIPA), Human Anatomy & Physiology (HAP), and Medical Terminology (MTER). | Healthcare Provider CPR |
This course is designed for medical care providers and provides instruction for CPR (one- and two-rescuer) and relief of choking for the adult, child, and infant victim. Topics include the use of airway devices like the bag valve mask and various pocket masks. All participants must be able to kneel on the floor beside a manikin for extended periods of time. There is a 25-question test with a passing score of 84% required. The required text is the AHA Healthcare Provider Book and should be purchased and read prior to class. Gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the complexity of the human body! You will learn how our body systems work together, identify common disorders of each body system, and define selected anatomical terms.
