InDesign is the must-have program for any print designer. Students will learn how to use InDesign to create single and multi-paginated documents using master pages, Photoshop files, Illustrator files, and type. Students will also learn how to release files for professional printing. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Principles of Graphic Design. Textbook, software and 2GB USB flash drive required. Second class in a five class sequence. (May be taken outside the certificate program with prior approval of the program director). Cannot substitute with an online course. Any graphic designer must understand how to work well with type. In this class, students will study the fundamental aspects of type, learn about the history of various typefaces, and manipulate type in a variety of ways to further their understanding of its creative importance within design. | Photoshop for the Print Designer |
Learn to use Photoshop, the ultimate tool for creating high-resolution graphics and manipulating digital photographs. Students will study how images for print are different from those for the web and how to work with Photoshop accordingly. Students will also create images and manipulate existing ones using basic techniques such as layers, silhouetting, color correction, and resizing. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Principles of Graphic Design, InDesign, and Typography Essentials. Textbook, software and 2GB USB flash drive required. Fourth class in a five class sequence. Illustrator is a powerful tool for creating vector graphics. In this class, students will learn the difference between vector and bitmap graphics and the appropriate use of vector graphics. Students will also use Illustrator to manipulate type and create logos and illustrations. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Principles of Graphic Design, InDesign, Typography Essentials, and Photoshop for the Print Designer. Textbook, software and 2GB USB flash drive required.
