This course is the first of four courses leading to the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) designation and provides an introduction to computer networking. This course presents information on network terminology, fundamentals, media, cabling, Ethernet fundamentals, Transmissions Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and routing fundamentals. This course is offered in combination with our credit department. Prerequisite: CIS 102 or permission of the instructor. Textbook required. Senior adult and disabled retiree tuition waivers apply. This course presents information on initial router configuration, Cisco Input/Output System (IOS) software management, routing protocol configuration, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and access control lists (ACLs). The course focuses on advanced Internet Protocol (IP) addressing techniques such as Network Address Translation (NAT), Port Address Translation (PAT), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Wide Area Network (WAN) technology and terminology, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Dial-on-Demand Routing (DDR), Frame Relay, network management, and introduction to optical networking.
