| Nitrification and Troubleshooting the Activated Sludge Process |
Operators, start your day discussing nitrification in-depth, with a review of
the nitrifying bacteria and the nitrification process. The course presents the
operational conditions necessary for acceptable nitrification and the forms of
nitrification (complete nitrification and four types of incomplete nitrification)
that can be monitored for process control and troubleshooting purposes. Other
topics include: operational conditions, cold wastewater temperature and
limiting factors that produce incomplete nitrification; and operational measures to
correct for cold wastewater nitrification and limiting factors are provided. Finish
the day, troubleshooting the Activated Sludge Process, a lecture presentation
of equipment needs and microscopic techniques for the identification of
acceptable and non-acceptable conditions of the bulk solution and organisms in the activated sludge and foam. Other topics include: reviewing the bulk solution
including dispersed growth, particulate material, floc particles, filamentous
organisms, protozoa and metazoa (rotifers and free-living nematodes). The course incorporates photomicrographs, rating tables and worksheets as well as the correlation of microscopic observations to operational conditions. Transcript available.
