| Healthcare Provider CPR |
This course is designed for medical care providers and provides instruction for CPR (one- and two-rescuer) and relief of choking for the adult, child, and infant victim. Topics include the use of airway devices like the bag valve mask and various pocket masks. All participants must be able to kneel on the floor beside a manikin for extended periods of time. There is a 25-question test with a passing score of 84% required. The required text is the AHA Healthcare Provider Book and should be purchased and read prior to class. | Venipuncture & Specimen Collection |
Learn to collect blood and body fluid specimens used in throat cultures, urinalysis and stool cultures, and prepare samples for testing in a lab. This course presents an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the various systems that require specimen collection, processing and handling of specimens, and laboratory operations. Students must be computer literate and have Internet access to be successful in this course. Attendance is 100% mandatory. Evidence of adequate immunization for rubella, chicken pox, and mumps, and proof of a current negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray reading required before admission to clinical. Students must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites: Foundations of Healthcare, HIPAA Compliance, Healthcare Externship Preparation, Healthcare Professionalism, Healthcare Provider CPR, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Business Computing, Law & Medical Ethics, and Medical Terminology. You may test out of selected prerequisites by making an appointment at the Test Center (443-412-2352) and requesting exams for HIPAA (HIPA), Human Anatomy & Physiology (HAP), and Medical Terminology (MTER). Those who successfully complete the Venipuncture & Specimen Collection course and the Venipuncture & Specimen Collection Clinical meet the eligibility requirements to sit for the national certification exam. This course is designed to supplement the training provided in the Venipuncture and Specimen Collection course. Participants must successfully complete the Venipuncture and Specimen collection course and have all appropriate paperwork submitted prior to placement. Students will gain practical experience working in 80 clinical hours.
