Message from the Chair
Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends,
As a member
of the Harford Community College Board of Trustees and current Board Chair,
I have learned first-hand of the excellent educational opportunities that
are provided by the College, and the noteworthy impact the College has on
the community. Excellence, service, responsiveness are hallmarks of the
offerings and activities of HCC.
The role of
the Board of Trustees, defined by state statute, is to provide broad
oversight to the College. As trustees consider the roadmap to HCC’s future,
they conscientiously review options. In Board decision-making, the goal of
ensuring that high quality, affordable education is available to the
citizens of Harford County is kept in the forefront.
Current times
are both challenging and exciting. Enrollment is growing and the College is
poised to accommodate a student population that is more numerous and
diverse. A major construction project – the renovation the College’s
athletic building – will begin in Spring 2011. The scope of the project
includes the addition a 3000-seat arena. When completed, this
state-of-the-art facility will enhance opportunities for both the College
and the community, and it will be a premier venue for athletic events and
physical education offerings. The design phase for a new Nursing and Allied
Health Building will also begin during the coming year, and all of us look
forward to a new facility on the HCC West Campus offering the last two years
of a baccalaureate degree through Towson University.
As always,
academic programs will continue to be reviewed and updated and new programs
will be developed. All of this will be done to respond to the ever-changing
needs of the local community.
The
continuing education division complements the College’s credit offerings by
providing personal interest classes for all ages – the young child through
the mature adult. In addition, the division offers customized business and
industry training to assist local businesses in keeping employees’ skills
up-to-date and workforce training to address the needs of those seeking to
enhance their portfolios.
The College
also enriches the community through a multi-faceted cultural events program.
The arts are showcased in musical presentations, plays, and gallery
exhibitions all of which entertain and enlighten patrons.
Harford
Community College contributes significantly to the quality of life in
Harford County. I invite you to come to campus and experience what Harford
has to offer.
Sincerely,
Bryan E.
