| Dear Students and Friends,
We believe that Harford Community College is an
outstanding institution of higher education. We encourage prospective students to consider HCC as the first choice for their education.
Harford’s faculty is superb, made up of full-time and adjunct professors who specialize in teaching and bring real-world
experience into their classrooms. In addition, the College offers a beautiful, well-maintained campus and is committed
to updating facilities, equipment and technology.
The original buildings constructed in the early 1960’s have all been renovated except one, Susquehanna
Center, which we hope to expand and renovate in 2011. Additional buildings are planned to help the College keep pace
with anticipated enrollment growth including a new building to support the Nursing and Allied Health
Division as it develops new programs for those who choose to work in the nursing and health field.
The College is also in discussions with Towson University
to construct a building on the HCC campus so students who choose Towson will
no longer have to commute to the main campus. We hope to open that building
in 2012.
The College continues its commitment to sustainability. Projects across campus that support our
green initiatives include solar hot water panels, green roofs, a wind turbine, cisterns that capture rain water to
conserve well water, and many others. The College is also pleased to have signed an agreement to participate in the
American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment to address global warming by working to neutralize
greenhouse gas emissions, and to integrate sustainability into the curriculum and make it part of the educational
experience.
Tuition at HCC is very reasonable thanks to financial support from the State of Maryland and
Harford County government. This support allows a student to pay only about one-third of the cost for a year’s
education at the College, a real value for students who do not want to be burdened by a large amount of debt after
graduation.
In addition to credit courses and degrees, the College
offers a wide range of noncredit courses and programs. Many are training
related and prepare people for new careers or allow them to improve skills
in an existing career. Other noncredit courses are avocational in nature and
allow people to take courses for personal growth or just for fun. Our
noncredit programs also include many courses for children. The College also
offers many cultural events and performances for people of all ages.
Harford Community College is an exciting place to study and grow. I encourage you to "consider
Harford first “ and get a great education in state-of-the-art facilities from faculty who care.
Cordially,

James F. LaCalle, Ed.D.
President
