| Dear Students and Friends,
In 2008 Harford Community College began its fifty-first year of service to Harford County.
The College began as Harford Junior College in 1957 and has grown considerably since that time. We began with
just 116 students, but now almost 8,000 students take credit courses throughout the year and an additional 15,000
students take noncredit courses.
The College encourages prospective students to consider HCC as the first choice for their education.
Harford’s faculty is superb, made up of full-time and adjunct professors who specialize in teaching and bring real-world
experience into their classrooms. In addition, the College offers a beautiful, well-maintained campus and is committed
to updating facilities, equipment and technology.
The original buildings constructed in the early 1960’s have all been renovated except one, Susquehanna
Center, which we hope to expand and renovate next year. Additional buildings are planned to help the College keep pace
with anticipated enrollment growth. We hope that our next new building will serve the Nursing and Allied Health
Division as it develops new programs for those who choose to work in the nursing and health field. Also, we hope to
construct a building that will support our apprenticeship training programs as well as other skilled trade programs.
The College continues its commitment to sustainability. Projects across campus that support our
green initiatives include solar hot water panels, green roofs, a wind turbine, cisterns that capture rain water to
conserve well water, and many others. The College is also pleased to have signed an agreement to participate in the
American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment to address global warming by working to neutralize
greenhouse gas emissions, and to integrate sustainability into the curriculum and make it part of the educational
experience.
Tuition at HCC is very reasonable thanks to financial support from the State of Maryland and
Harford County government. This support allows a student to pay only about one-third of the cost for a year’s
education at the College, a real value for students who do not want to be burdened by a large amount of debt after
graduation.
Harford Community College is an exciting place to study and grow. I encourage you to "consider
Harford first “ and get a great education in state-of-the-art facilities from faculty who care.
Cordially,

James F. LaCalle, Ed.D.
President
