Harford Community
College's Disability Support Services (DSS) office provides
accommodations and support services to students with
documented disabilities. Notetakers, scribes, and readers are expected to maintain confidentiality of student
information.
Notetakers are
expected to attend all scheduled classes, take thorough, legible
notes on class lectures and discussions, and provide copies of
notes to the student, the instructor, or DSS office.
Readers are
expected to read aloud
in a slow, precise manner, speaking clearly, either to an audio
recorder or directly to a student; to complete reading
assignments in a timely manner; and deliver copies of audio recordings to DSS.
Scribes assist
students by writing answers to exams or other written
assignments exactly as dictated by the student. Scribes
are expected to write
the student's words legibly and give a copy of the scribed
materials to DSS, the instructor, or the student.
These are part-time,
hourly, non-exempt staff positions.
