Student Orientation Leader

Hourly Rate:  $8.59

RESPONSIBILITIES: Student Orientation Leaders work individually or in teams to facilitate orientation for 10 to 15 students each day of the orientation program.  Leaders learn about HCC's services and programs and relay that knowledge to others; attend training; lead orientation activities; engender enthusiasm for the College; serve as role models and peer mentors for incoming students during August Orientation and the fall semester; and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

Work schedule is as follows:  All-day training sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, August 2; Monday to Wednesday, August 5 to 7; and Wednesday, August 14.  Orientation sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, August 8, 9, 15 and 16.  Leaders are required to meet with assigned students regularly throughout the fall semester.  Leaders are required to attend monthly meetings held at 2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month (September 6, October 4, November 1, and December 6) throughout the fall semester.
 

 REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, have a minimum of 12 college credits (preferably earned at HCC) with a minimum GPA of 2.0*, and be enrolled in Fall 2013 at HCC.  Effective oral and written communication skills and knowledge of HCC policies and services are also required.  Past student leadership experience is preferred. 

*Candidates will be required to sign a FERPA release permitting access to educational records to confirm required GPA. 

Any offer of employment at Harford Community College is contingent upon the results of a mandatory background screening.  Employees must submit within 30 days of hire official transcripts of all degrees earned.
