Message from the Dean

Welcome to Harford Community College’s division of the Visual, Performing and Applied Arts (VPAA@Harford.edu).

We offer opportunities for learning and professional preparation in many fields within the division’s disciplines of Digital Arts, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Mass Communications, Music, Photography, and Theatre.  The division is responsible for the operation of 91.1 WHFC-FM, Bel Air’s only radio station and the only public broadcaster in the County, and the Chesapeake Gallery, which features regional contemporary art exhibitions.  We produce several professional concerts which include the Evening of Jazz Series and the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series.

These are exciting times as the division has recently taken occupancy in the newly renovated Joppa Hall on HCC’s campus.  We continue to invest in high quality faculty, facilities, and equipment.  To highlight a few areas, we have two 20 station state-of-the-art Macintosh labs, a 16 station electronic music lab, video and audio editing labs, fine art studios, fully-equipped color and black and white wet photo labs, and a 24-channel ProTools recording studio.  There is a student gallery housed in Joppa Hall, as well as numerous display areas for student work throughout the building.  There are recital/concert performance spaces in the music wing of Joppa Hall.  Additional performance spaces include the Joppa Hall Courtyard, the Chesapeake Theater, and the Amoss Center for the Performing Arts.

Please explore this website to learn more about our division.  If you like what you see, feel free to stop by and visit us in person.  Whether you are an alumnus, a member of the community, or a prospective student, we welcome you to look around and talk with us.  If you have any questions, comments, or ideas you’d like to discuss, please contact us at VPAA@Harford.edu.
