Disability Support Services

Services for Students With Disabilities

Harford Community College is committed to serving qualified students with documented disabilities.  Our staff is dedicated to helping students with disabilities access all of the educational opportunities and services offered by the College.  Our office is responsible for providing reasonable accommodations, assistive technology, and a variety of support services to students with disabilities.

There are significant differences in how students obtain accommodations in college.  Disability support services (i.e. classroom accommodations) are not automatically put in place, IEP's do not follow students to college, and no special education services exist in higher education.  Students who wish to obtain accommodations for their classes must:

  1. make an appointment for an orientation to Disability Support Services (DSS) by calling 443-412-2402 or visiting DSS in the Student Center

  2. set up an orientation appointment for a time after they have secured documentation

  3. complete orientation and submit current documentation from a qualified professional that meets our guidelines

  4. schedule an appointment with DSS to obtain accommodation memos

  5. set up a meeting with their instructors to provide each instructor with these memos

Parents and family members of students with disabilities are invited to participate in a Parent 101 session where a representative from  Disability Support Services will be available.  .
