PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Interior Design program prepares students for
professional assistant-level employment in the field
of interior design or transfer to a four-year institution. The
preparation of creative graphic and oral presentations is
emphasized. Internships and Cooperative Education are
available to students as an additional means of receiving a
hands-on learning experience related to interior design.
Students planning to transfer to a four-year college should
seek advisement early in their studies at HCC.
PROGRAM GOALS
Upon completion of the Associate of Applied Science in Interior Design degree students will be able to:
- Communicate the principles and elements of design using interior design terminology.
- Create a professional portfolio using current interior design techniques.
- Apply drafting and CADD skills to space planning and concept design.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Interior designers plan the arrangement of building interiors
and furnishings. They prepare space planning and drafting
layouts for existing and proposed structures and design special
built-in features. The U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports
that employment in design occupations is expected to grow at
an average rate. Persons seeking beginning jobs are expected
to face competition for entry level jobs. Job opportunities are
principally available in metropolitan and suburban counties
where Associate degree graduates can expect competition from
those holding Bachelor’s degrees.
