Computer Certifications: Web Graphic Design

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Web Graphic Design Noncredit Certification?

The Web Graphic Design Noncredit Certification is a professional certification for those who have an aptitude with graphics, layout and colors. Students will use state of the art software such as Photoshop to create high-quality graphics, Dreamweaver for powerful page layout and dynamic web pages, Fireworks, and Flash to create vector-based animation for quick downloads and ColdFusion.

Why should I get certified?

Earning a Web Graphic Design noncredit certification acknowledges your expertise in working with internet-based technologies. It lets others know your achievement level, and can help you get a foot in the door with either a prospective employer or client.

What salary can I expect?

In 2009, the median annual income of a Web designer employed in the United States was $50,725. This is a very good field to be in, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment in this sector to increase by 38 percent through 2016.

Employment in Web Design is expected to grow faster than average through 2014.

Where do I get a job? Will you provide assistance?

Harford Community College offers counseling and assistance in your job search. Advisors are available to help current students and graduates with resume development and interview skills. Visit the Academic Advising and Transfer Services website or contact them at 443-412-2301.

How long is the program? What will I learn?

The Web Graphic Design program consists of intensive training courses that include lectures and hands-on exercises to provide students with the base knowledge necessary to perform in a business environment. The duration of the training program can vary depending on both student and course availability. Courses must be taken in sequence, and projects must be completed in each course before proceeding to the next class.

Web Graphic Design Certificates

The certification is awarded by Harford Community College upon successful completion of the entire program’s courses and projects. There are no further Web Graphic Design education requirements or exams once the student has become certified. However, you may wish to become certified in new technologies as they develop.

What are the Prerequisites?

Students must be comfortable working with Windows 2003 or XP and understand directory and file structures, comfortable with browsers, and have advanced knowledge of the Internet. All participants are encouraged to attend Computer Counseling Night for detailed information on the program.

I’m still not sure the computer field is for me. What should I do?

Attend Computer Counseling Night held at the beginning of the Fall Semester on the Harford Community College Campus. It’s free to the public. Computer training instructors will be there to speak with you and help select the programs appropriate for you.

How much will this cost?

Costs vary depending on whether you register for training as well. See specific course listings for fees.
