Preparing for Transfer
Academic advising is available to help you
make the right decisions when it comes to preparing for transfer.
We recommend that you meet with an Academic Advisor early in your
career at Harford to take advantage of the many resources available.
Getting started with the process early will also insure you don't
waste any of your valuable time, money or credits.
Here are some of the many services available:
- Transfer guides to most of the University
System of Maryland Schools and many area private institutions.
-
College Articulation Transfer Information
- Staff with knowledge and experience of transfer
policies and procedures.
-
ARTSYS
(The Articulation
System) -
a computerized transfer articulation system linking Harford
Community College and the entire University System of Maryland
and some private schools. It is possible to find out
what courses are most beneficial to take at Harford before
transfer in a particular major. This takes most of the guess-work
out of selecting courses.
- Assistance with
College
Search on the Internet.
What to Do
- During the year before your anticipated transfer,
attend Transfer Fairs, visit campuses, and talk to transfer
representatives. Education costs a lot of money, so shop wisely!
- Send applications and official transcripts to
the colleges you are considering. Watch application deadlines!
Your application should be there before HCC sends your transcript
according to the transcript request form. Keep each institution
you are considering supplied with your most recent transcript
after each semester or summer session. The Records Office will
send your transcript as you requested within a week.
- Save the copies of the ARTSYS printout you are
following in order to verify with the transfer institution that
you were following their Recommended Transfer Program. If after
you transfer you are not satisfied with your transfer evaluation,
call your HCC advisor. Perhaps we can help to clarify issues
between you and the transfer institution.
- Each college has its own policy regarding the
acceptance of D grades. Some will accept only grades C and above,
some will accept up to 15 credits of D grades, and others will
accept D grades only if they are not in general education (core)
or major requirements.
