Medical Administrative Assistant

This entry level program prepares students to sit for National Certification as a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).


Medical Administrative Assistants are an integral part of any healthcare facility and are responsible for communicating with patients, scheduling appointments, filing insurance claims, maintaining records, and billing. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the 2018 median salary for Medical Administrative Assistants in Maryland was $39,200 per year.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED
  • Reading (NGR) and Math (NGA) Assessments, available at the Test Center; college-level courses or SAT/ACT scores (500+) may be used in place of the NGR and NGA
  • Health Assessment, including immunization record; prior to externship
  • Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification through the American Heart Association; prior to externship

  • Medical Office Processes
  • Medical Front Office Externship
    (The Clinical Coordinator arranges start date and placement with each student. Evening and weekend hours not available. It may take up to 3 months for students to be placed at an externship site. Students have 6 months to participate in an externship upon successful completion of all prerequisite courses)

Approximate cost of the program is $1,807.

All textbooks for noncredit classes are available at the College Store located in the Student Center.
