Dental Assistant

This program prepares students to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiation Health & Safety Examination.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the 2018 median salary for Dental Assistants in Maryland was $42,080. Employment is expected to grow 19% from 2016-2026, faster than the national average.

Dental Assistant Program Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED
  • Reading (NGR) and Math (NGA) Assessments, available at the Test Center; college-level courses and SAT/ACT scores (500+) may be used in place of the NGR and NGA
  • Healthcare Provider BLS CPR certification through the American Heart Association (AHA); prior to externship
  • Health Assessment, including immunization record; prior to externship
  • Scrubs provided, but must purchase HCC patch at the College Store

Career Courses:

  • Dental Assistant Training* (88 hours)
  • Dental Assistant Externship (40 hours)
    (The Clinical Coordinator arranges start date and placement with each student. Evening and weekend hours not available. It may take up to 3 months for students to be placed at an externship site. Students have 6 months to participate in an externship upon successful completion of Dental Assistant Training.)

Approximate cost of the program: $3,263, plus required textbook.

Noncredit Registration

Textbooks:

All textbooks for noncredit classes are available at the College Store located in the Student Center.

*First class on campus in Darlington Hall. All other classes meet at Dental One, 3435 Box Hill Corporate Center Drive, Ste. E, Abingdon, MD 21009 (Directions)
