Would you like to be part of the movement towards green energy solutions? Does the idea that you are a key part of making a real change sound good to you? If you like working with your hands and want to help people “go green,” then you would enjoy this career.
Solar photovoltaic installers use specialized skills to install residential and commercial solar projects. You would need mechanical skills and must be able to work with the power and hand tools used to construct and fasten equipment. Electrical knowledge and an understanding of basic math are helpful, as are good problem-solving abilities. Attention to detail is important, because completing an installation often requires following diagrams and instructions. Heavy lifting is also required at times, since solar panels typically weigh between 30 and 40 pounds, and batteries can weigh double that or more.
Given the high interest in green energy solutions, and the trend of favorable government incentives, analyst expect that the solar power industry will continue to grow rapidly. Just look around your own neighborhood and see how many people have installed solar panels in the last few years!
Overall employment of Solar Photovoltaic Installers is expected to increase 105%, much faster than the average job growth, from 2016-26. The median wage for 2017 was $18.98 per hour. We have potential employers contacting us and interested in hiring immediately!
Students that successfully complete this course should be able to obtain entry-level employment in the solar energy installation and maintenance field. The Solar Photovoltaic Installer course is taught by a master electrician and certified installer, and usually completed in just two weeks.
Total approximate cost is $400. Total instructional hours are 16
