Prepare to become a licensed home inspector.

Inspecting a homeDuring this 72-hour course, students experience an in-depth look at each component of a house - what to look for and how to report their findings according to the Maryland Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. The student will learn hands-on through lab exercises and demonstrations.  Upon completion, graduates have the skills to seek employment as a home inspector, set up a home inspection company or add home inspection services to their current offerings. This program meets the requirements to seek a home inspection license in Maryland and other states.

What Else do You Need to Know?

There are no additional qualifications or prerequisites for this class, other than the ability to perform the work involved, which includes climbing, lifting, etc.

**Please note that the above classes are contingent on HCC continuing in person classes. 

  • Classes are held in Joppa Hall on the HCC Campus.
  • Classes run from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm for eight consecutive days (including Saturdays and Sundays). 
  • The cost of the course includes all materials, and visits to do at least 3 actual home inspections.
  • After passing your class, you will need to take the state exam and then apply for your license.
    • The nearest test center to HCC is 6115 Falls Rd, Baltimore.
    • Test Centers are also available College Park, Crofton, Hagerstown, Lanham, and Salisbury.

    • The cost of the exam is about $225, and the cost of the license is about $325 per year.

  • Inspectors must carry $150,000 in General Liability Insurance.
