ATHENA Award

ATHENA Leadership Award Breakfast

Dr. Lisa Feulner received the 2018 ATHENA Leadership Award at the ATHENA Leadership Award Breakfast, presented by The Daily Record on March 2 at the Richlin Ballroom. The recipient of the ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award was Brittany Trocher.

The ATHENA Award is presented to an exemplary leader who has achieved excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession; served the community to improve the quality of life for others; and, most importantly, actively assisted women to achieve their full leadership potential.

Dr. Feulner is an ophthalmologist, President and CEO of Advanced Eye Care & Aesthetics, with over 20 years of experience in her field. She was named one of the 300 Premier Innovators in refractive cataract surgery in the United States by Ocular Surgery News, making her the only ophthalmologist in Harford County and one of three in Maryland to have this recognition. The long list of organizations to which she has offered assistance includes Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County, and Temple Adas Shalom. Dr. Feulner is a member of numerous medical and honor societies and has donated her time, staff, and resources to countless community organizations and events.

The ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award was established to honor emerging leaders who exhibit professional excellence, provide valuable service to their communities and understand the value of assisting women in their careers.

Brittany is the Director of Internal Communications and Outreach for Polaris Alpha. She served as the President for Young AFCEA and created and implemented the Young AFCEAn Mentor Protégé and Networking Night, an open forum with senior leadership at APG offering insight, networking, and mentorship to young professionals. The event proceeds were used in support of STEM initiatives within the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County. Brittany now sits as Executive Vice President for the AFCEA Aberdeen Chapter and continues her efforts as Chair for the TAPS golf tournament at APG, a non-profit organization that supports families of fallen heroes. In both her personal and professional circles, she offers her experience and support to women starting their careers, whether through programs such as Young AFCEA or in the daily leadership she exhibits to her team.

Proceeds from this year's event will fund the ATHENA Leadership Award Scholarship, a $1,000 annual award to which first preference will be given to a female adult returning to college who exemplifies professionalism and commitment to the community. The recipient must be a Harford County resident, enrolled at least half time (6+ credits) with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
