In May 2005, Dr. James LaCalle was
appointed as the seventh President of Harford Community College. The
College sits on 332 acres, enrolls 7,600 credit students per year and
more than 14,000 students in noncredit courses. The College has an
operating budget of $39 million.
Prior to his appointment to the presidency, Dr. LaCalle worked at the
College for more than 35 years, primarily in the continuing education
and training division. He holds a bachelor’s in Physical Education from
Springfield College, a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling
from the Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctor of Education degree in
Higher Education Administration from the American University in
Washington, D.C. He has completed Leadership Maryland, a statewide
leadership development program, and the Institute for the Management of
Lifelong Education at Harvard University.
Dr. LaCalle has been active in the community and is currently serving on
a number of boards and commissions including the Harford County YMCA
Board, the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council Board, the APG
Science and Technology Board, the Susquehanna Workforce Investment
Board, and the Harford County Economic Development Advisory Board. He
also serves on the President’s Council for the Greater Baltimore
Committee and he is a member of the Harford County Chapter of the NAACP.
In past years, Dr. LaCalle has served on advisory boards for the
Department of Social Services, the Harford Cable Network, the United Way
of Central Maryland, and the Harford County Cultural Advisory Board. He
has also served as president of the Bel Air Rotary Club. |
