David R. Craig has dedicated his career to improving the lives of Harford County citizens. After 34-years with the Harford County Public Schools, David retired as Assistant Principal at Southampton Middle School and was elected to the office of Harford County Executive. Today, David continues his mission to promote education, public safety, government efficiency, economic opportunity, and environmental stewardship for Harford County. He is strongly committed to carefully-planned growth and the protection of the County's agricultural heritage.

David’s public service has included six years on the Havre de Grace County Council, eight years as Mayor of Havre de Grace, and eight years in the Maryland General Assembly as a Delegate and State Senator.

David serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, the treasurer for the Maryland Association of Counties, a member of the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board and is a member of the Governor's Commission on the Administration of Elections as well as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Workforce Housing. In the past he has served on the State Task Force to Review the State's Election Law, the State Task Force on Maryland's Dairy Industry, the Maryland Tourism Development Board, and the Maryland Civil War Heritage Commission. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 47 and Boy Scouts of America Troop 967 (past district chair, Harford County).

In addition, David is an enthusiastic Harford County history buff and writer. He co-authored the book “Greetings from Havre de Grace” and he has authored several articles for the Harford County Historical Society.

David was born in Havre de Grace in 1949 and graduated from Havre de Grace High School. He received his B.S. from Towson State College in 1971 and a M.A. from Morgan State University in 1983. He married his high school sweetheart, Melinda, and together they raised three children in their historic home in Havre de Grace. The couple’s favorite pastime is spending time with their seven grandchildren. He and Melinda work each day to ensure those grandchildren, along with all Harford County children, inherit a strong, safe, and beautiful Harford County.
