Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends,
Harford Community College has reached a milestone in 2007 with the
celebration of its 50th anniversary year.
The College opened its doors as Harford Junior College in September
1957 at Bel Air High School with fewer than 200 students. Over the years,
Harford has grown to meet the needs of the community by providing high quality,
accessible and affordable educational opportunities and services.
The HCC campus now occupies 332 acres near Bel Air, Maryland, and has 21 buildings.
Today Harford enrolls more than 7,500 credit students each year,
and we have a very large noncredit Continuing Education and Training
program that enrolls more than 15,000 students a year.
We also serve as a center for recreation and wellness and
offer an extensive selection of cultural programs and special events for adults and children.
To promote our anniversary, the College chose the theme “50 Years and Growing.”
We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary with a wonderful selection of special
events that includes something for everyone. The first event
was a fundraising gala,
“Oh, What a Night!” in January at the Maryland Golf and Country Club. In addition,
there will be a
Renewable Energy Expo in April,
Kim Waters Jazz Concert and
Hubcaps Oldies Dance and Car Show
in May, a Family Fun Weekend
in September,
Morgan State University Choir Performance in October,
and a lecture on what the future holds for HCC and its students in November.
As you can see, there are many exciting events happening
this year at Harford. We hope you will join us in the celebration!
James F. LaCalle, Ed.D.
